-1 + 2 = A beast of a performance

 Martin C, Editor

Our young team showed really great character last night to come back from 2 goals down to 2-2 against a full-strength Spurs team.

Julio BaptistaJulio Baptista got both goals and one of Spurs’ as well. To be honest I think a draw was just about a fair result although either team could have nicked it towards the end.

Spurs took the lead early on from a Berbatov header after Kolo appeared to hear a call from Almunia to leave the ball. Anyway, Berbatov was given a free header which he then converted. The second came when a dubious free kick was awarded by Graham Poll. It was hit low into the penalty area and Baptista was first to it and as he swivelled round, it found its way into the back of the net.

Baptista then missed a sitter with the last kick of the half - at this point things weren’t looking that great for him.

But what a response in the second half. Baptista made ammends with two excellent finishes. Justin Hoyte crossed an excellent ball for his second.

CescFabregas was a different class once again and it was good to see Diaby get a run out even if he seemed a little bit short of match fitness.

Eboue’s substitute conrtibution was fantastic. With his debatable defensive weakness, could right-midfield actually be his better position?

It was slightly worrying to see Alex Hleb get subbed off with an apparent hamstring strain - An injury we really could do without at the moment.

Anyway, all in all a good result to carry to the Grove next week. Next up, a tough visit from Bolton in the FA Cup.

Doesn’t Baptista deserve a starting place alongside Thierry?

That never happens

 Martin C, Editor

Sorry about the delayed response to Sunday’s game, but I thought I’d let the victory sink in properly. And the more I think about it, the better it gets.

That never happensAfter falling behind to a Wayne Rooney header early on in the second half things weren’t looking great, but throughout the match, even at the beginning when we couldn’t get the ball, I had this unrelenting sense of calm. However, calm is not the word I would to describe how I was feeling at the final whistle though!

WHAT a game! WHAT a result! WHAT a victory!

I seriously can’t express the pleasure I get from games like this. I’m sure you all understand. It’s the kind of match I dream about. We’ve done the double over Manchested United - something we couldn’t even achieve in our unbeaten season.

2-1 to the ArsenalThe only downside to the game, it appears, is that we’ve lost Robin for at least ’six weeks’ after he broke his fifth metatarsal, supposedly when he celebrated the equaliser. I’m amazed he played the rest of the game considering that.

Anyway, delicious victories aside, it’s back to business for young guns tomorrow with the first encounter with Spurs in the Carling cup at White Hart lane.

There’s no doubt it’ll be a tough game, but as proved at Anfield our boys can beat the some of the best. It will be interesting to see the kind of team Wenger plays. It could be a step up from the 11 fielded at Anfield.

Robin should be fit / Lauren moves on

 Martin C, Editor

There is some good news ahead of Sunday with Robin van Persie now having a ‘good chance’ of playing. The more fit players we have available the better, but I still would prefer to see Adebayor start alongside Thierry. I thinks he’s better at holding up the ball and has that extra bit of strength and power we need.

LaurenAnother incentive to play Emmanuel is to think that Rio Ferdinand will be absolutely bricking it every time he gets the ball.

Lauren has left Arsenal and joined Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee. It seems Wenger believes in our younger players in that position (Hoyte & Eboue) and possibly doesn’t think that Ralph will be the same player following his nasty injury.

Still, experience at this level is priceless so I really am sad to see him go. Fully composed and amazingly consistent, Lauren will without doubt be missed.

Arsene said:

“Lauren’s contribution to Arsenal since he joined the club in 2000 has been absolutely outstanding. On behalf of the players and staff we wish Lauren the best of luck at Portsmouth.”

So back to the match on Sunday and I genuinely think we can win this one. Some of our best performances this season have come against the bigger teams. The theory is that bigger teams try to attack us instead of playing with 10 men behind the ball therefore allowing us to play our own game.

Also it’s Liverpool v Chelsea tomorrow and I’m hoping for a draw. And obviously an emphatic Arsenal win on Sunday.
